Introducing Magnum Opus: The Fiction Addicts Writing Studio Is Here

Fiction Addicts has always been about reducing the number of different platforms authors and readers need just to manage their bookish lives.

For authors, that idea has just taken a very big step forward.

We’re officially introducing Magnum Opus, our newest author tier, and its first major release is something we’ve been wanting to build for a long time:

The Writing Studio.

This isn’t simply another blank page with a word counter attached to it. The Writing Studio is being built as a complete space where an author can plan a novel, write it, organize chapters and scenes, analyze their manuscript, format the finished book, preview the interior, export professional files, and eventually move that book directly into ARC, Beta or publication without having to rebuild the project somewhere else.

And yes, this is still Alpha.

One Project From Idea to Finished Book

The Writing Studio starts with your projects.

Each manuscript gets its own space where you can see your progress, word count and current status, then move directly between planning and writing.

Your Studio Hub also gives you an overview across all of your projects, including:

• Your total word count
• Words written this week, month and year
• Writing streaks
• Writing days logged
• Productivity information
• Quick access to every manuscript
• Direct Plan and Write buttons
• The ability to create new projects without leaving the Studio

The idea is simple: instead of having your outline in one app, your manuscript somewhere else, your notes in another document and your formatting software waiting at the end, the book stays connected from the beginning.

Plan the Story Before You Write It

Every project includes a visual planning board.

Chapters are laid out across the screen, with individual scene cards inside each chapter. Those scenes can be added, renamed, moved and dragged between chapters as your story changes.

Because stories rarely behave themselves once you actually start writing them.

You can build your own structure from scratch, or use one of the included story templates to lay down a starting framework.

Current templates include:

The templates create suggested story beats as scene cards, giving you a framework you can then rename, move, expand, delete or completely ignore when your characters inevitably decide they know better than you do.

There are also dedicated tools for Cast & Places, plus the ability to download a Story Bible for your project.

A Writing Space That Actually Feels Like a Writing Space

When you’re ready to write, the project opens inside the full Writing Studio editor.

Your chapters, front matter and back matter sit alongside the manuscript, so you can move between the different parts of the book without opening separate documents.

The Studio includes:

Your Studio appearance is also independent from the rest of Fiction Addicts, so you can keep the website light while writing in dark mode at midnight like the little cave creature every author eventually becomes.

Built-In Manuscript Statistics

The Writing Studio doesn’t only tell you how many words you have written.

The Stats panel can analyze individual chapters or your whole manuscript and give you information about the way you’re writing.

That includes things like:

• Word count
• Sentence count
• Paragraph count
• Average sentence length
• Unique words
• Estimated reading time
• Readability information
• Reading age
• Most-used words
• Potential crutch words
• Adverb usage
• Filter words and other writing habits

The goal isn’t to tell you how you must write.

It’s to give you useful information about your own manuscript so you can spot patterns you may want to review during editing.

If one character has “suddenly” done something seventeen times in one chapter, perhaps the Studio should be allowed to politely point that out.

Format the Book Without Rebuilding It Somewhere Else

One of the biggest parts of Magnum Opus is that the Writing Studio doesn’t stop when you finish the draft.

Switch over to Formatting and you can begin turning the manuscript into an actual book interior.

Authors can customize things like:

• Chapter numbering style
• Chapter titles
• Heading alignment
• Heading size
• Letter case
• Italic chapter titles
• Decorative rules under headings
• Paragraph indentation
• Paragraph spacing
• Justified text
• Drop caps
• Scene-break size
• Scene-break artwork
• Running heads
• Page numbers
• Trim size
• Margins and gutters

You can also choose from different genre-based design styles and scene-break decorations to give the interior more personality without manually rebuilding every chapter.

Front and Back Matter Templates

The Studio also includes templates for the pages authors normally have to create separately.

Depending on what your book needs, you can add and edit things such as:

• Title page
• Copyright page
• AI disclosure
• Credits
• Dedication
• Epigraph
• Contents
• Also By the Author
• Other front and back matter

These pages stay connected to the same manuscript and formatting system as the rest of the book.

See the Book Before You Export It

Formatting becomes much easier when you can actually see what you’re creating.

The Writing Studio includes a page-by-page formatting preview so you can look through the interior as a reader would see it.

That means you can check:

• Chapter openings
• Page flow
• Margins
• Running heads
• Page numbers
• Front matter
• Scene breaks
• Paragraph formatting
• Overall visual balance

Instead of exporting a file, finding something wrong, going back, changing it, exporting again and repeating the process until the computer becomes airborne.

Export for Ebook, Editing or Paperback

When the book is ready, Magnum Opus can export it in multiple formats.

Current export options include:

• PDF for print-ready paperback interiors
• EPUB for ebook stores and ereaders
• DOCX for editors, agents or further manuscript work

Paperback exports also include professional print settings such as trim size, mirrored margins, gutters and bleed options.

Print presets are available for:

• Standard / home printing
• Amazon KDP
• IngramSpark

The system also performs basic print checks before export, helping identify things like margin requirements, page-count considerations and bleed settings.

Build the Cover Too

The Writing Studio also includes a Cover section.

Authors can choose a design direction, select a palette, upload their own artwork and begin creating the cover connected to that project.

And if you would rather hand the professional work over to somebody else, you can also send the project through to an FAA Formatter for services such as formatting, design, layout or a matching cover.

From Manuscript to ARC, Beta or Sale

One of the most important ideas behind the Writing Studio is that finishing the manuscript shouldn’t mean starting your entire workflow again somewhere else.

Once the book is ready, authors can move it directly into the next stage.

A finished project can be used as:

• An ARC copy
• A Beta Reading copy
• A saleable ebook
• A published Fiction Addicts title

That means the book you planned and wrote inside the Studio can move directly into the same ARC, Beta, reader and sales ecosystem already being built inside Fiction Addicts.

The Writing Studio is the first major feature being released specifically for Magnum Opus.

There is already more planned.

A built-in newsletter system is scheduled for Beta, with Magnum Opus accounts set to receive an included allowance of up to 1,000 subscribers and 3,000 email sends per month in the trial period, with the intention to increase.

We’re also developing future tools around serial publishing, chapter-by-chapter reader interaction and paid reader subscriptions where authors can choose their own pricing.

The Writing Studio is live, but Fiction Addicts is still in Alpha.

That means we fully expect authors to find things we can improve.

If you use the Studio, please experiment with it. Create a project. Throw scenes around the planning board. Try the templates. Write a chapter. Abuse the formatting controls. Export something. Check the print preview.

Then tell us what worked, what didn’t, and what you desperately wish existed.

That is exactly what Alpha is for.
