Privacy Policy

Last updated 28 August 2026.

1. Scope

This policy explains how Fiction Addicts Anonymous handles personal information for members of fiction-addicts.com. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles and, where they apply to you, the GDPR and UK GDPR.

2. What we collect

Account data: name or pen name, email address, password (stored hashed by our authentication provider), and the profile details you choose to add — bio, avatar, website and social links, genres, tropes and content triggers.

Author data: books, blurbs, cover images, Goodreads links, manuscripts you upload, tasks and to-do items, and service requests including any files or notes you attach.

Activity data: ARC and beta claims, reading progress, highlights, comments and reactions, reviews, likes, replies and reports, notification preferences and read state.

Billing data: plan, status, renewal dates and payment provider identifiers. Card numbers are handled by our payment provider (Stripe) and never reach our servers.

Technical data: log and error information, and basic analytics needed to keep the site secure and working.

3. Why we use it

To run your account and memberships, match readers with books using your stated preferences and triggers, deliver ARC and beta reading, calculate reviewer points and prizes, send transactional and notification emails you have not opted out of, process payments and service proposals, moderate the community, and meet legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your manuscripts to train AI models.

4. Who we share it with

Authors see the reader-facing name attached to reviews, ARC feedback and beta notes on their own books. Public pages show your public profile, reviews and (for paid authors) your author directory listing.

Service providers who operate the platform on our behalf — hosting and database, email delivery, and payment processing — access data only as needed to provide their service. We may disclose information where the law requires it.

5. Manuscripts and confidentiality

Manuscripts are stored privately and shown only to the readers an author has granted access to, always watermarked and never downloadable through the platform. Access ends when the reading window closes or the link is revoked. Service-request files are visible only to you and our administrators.

6. Storage, security and retention

Data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest, and access is restricted by row-level security rules. We keep account data for as long as your account exists. Directory listings may be retained for up to one year after a subscription ends, as described in our terms. Billing and audit records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires.

7. Your rights

You can view and edit your profile, reader card and author profile at any time in settings, control which notifications you receive, and ask us to export or delete your account data. Where the GDPR applies you also have rights to restrict or object to processing, and to complain to your local supervisory authority. Email hello@fictionaddictsanonymous.com and we will respond within 30 days.

8. Cookies

We use only the cookies and local storage needed to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and keep the site secure. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.

9. Children

The platform is not intended for people under 16, and some listed books carry adult content warnings. We remove accounts we believe belong to children.

10. Changes and contact

We will announce material changes to this policy in-app. For anything privacy related, contact hello@fictionaddictsanonymous.com.
